The Tennent family from Hull have been named finalists in the prestigious BBC Make a Difference Awards 2025, recognised for their inspiring contribution to raising awareness of mental health and supporting local charities in loving memory of their daughter, Hollie.
Hollie tragically took her own life at just 20 years old, leaving her parents Jo and Mark, along with their wider family and friends, heartbroken. Since that devastating loss, with the unwavering support and blessing of the Tennents, Hollie’s friends, including Jaz and Olivia, neighbours, and the wider community have united to raise nearly £33,000 for Hull and East Yorkshire Mind and Dove House Hospice.
Their efforts have included remarkable events such as 24-hour and 12-hour netball matches, as well as Holliefest, a vibrant music festival held in Hollie’s honour.
It is this extraordinary courage, commitment, and the enduring love they continue to share in Hollie’s name that led to their nomination for the BBC Make a Difference Awards. We are absolutely thrilled to see their incredible work recognised as finalists.
To Jo, Mark, Jaz, Olivia, and everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you. You embody the very best of community spirit. Hollie’s memory shines brightly through everything you do.
The BBC Make a Difference Awards celebrate those who create meaningful impact in their communities. The Tennent family has been shortlisted in the Fundraising category, with winners to be announced later this year.
With all our love and admiration,
The Team at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind
