Local mental health charity, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, is promoting this year’s Time to Talk day, with the message ‘wherever you are, it’s good to talk about mental health’.

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind will be running a series of events on Time to Talk day, aimed at encouraging people to talk about mental health. Drop in events will be taking place in Withernsea, Bridlington, Driffield, Goole, Hessle, Hull and Beverley, and everyone is welcome to pop along for a chat.

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind has also been working with Hull City Council to promote the message that it’s good to talk about mental health with a billboard outside Hull Royal Infirmary, and promotions at St Stephens shopping centre.

Jo Sherriff, Team Leader for Community services at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, said “I hope that everyone will use this Time to Talk day to talk about mental health. Wherever you are, whether you’re having lunch, out shopping, at the gym or even up a mountain, it’s good to talk about mental health. Everyone is welcome at our drop in events across the region, and I look forward to meeting lots of people and talking about mental health.

David Smith, Chief Executive at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, said “Too many people with mental health problems are made to feel isolated, worthless and ashamed. This campaign is about all of us being more open about mental health – to talk, to listen, to change lives.”

Paul Laing, Specialist Public Health lead at Hull City Council, said “We’re really pleased to be working with Hull and East Yorkshire Mind to promote better mental health. It’s easy to think there’s no right place to talk about mental health. But the more we talk about it, the better life is for all of us.”
