April is Stress Awareness Month
Stress is how we react when we feel under pressure or threatened. It usually happens when we are in a situation that we don’t feel we can manage or control. Sometimes, a small amount of stress can help us to complete tasks and feel more energised. But stress can become a problem when it lasts for a long time or is very intense. In some cases, stress can affect our physical and mental health.
We have put together some tips to help you cope with and manage stress.
- Identify the source of your stress: Understanding what is causing your stress can help you come up with a plan to manage it more effectively.
- Practice relaxation techniques: Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and yoga can help calm your mind and reduce stress.
- Exercise regularly: Exercise releases endorphins, which can help improve your mood and reduce stress.
- Prioritise self-care: Make time for activities that you enjoy and that help you feel relaxed and rejuvenated, such as taking a bath, reading a book, or spending time with loved ones.
- Get enough sleep: Lack of sleep can contribute to stress and make it harder to manage. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
- Practice time management: Overcommitting yourself can lead to stress and anxiety. Learn to say no to requests that are not essential and prioritize your time accordingly.
- Seek support: Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or mental health professional when you’re feeling stressed. Having someone to talk to can help you feel less alone and provide valuable support and advice.
Remember, everyone experiences stress differently, and what works for one person may not work for another. Experiment with different techniques until you find what works best for you. If you are finding things hard, get in touch. We can help you. Call 01482 240133 or email [email protected]
