Happy New Year!
It’s that time of year when the pressures from Christmas and the New Year, or the thought of returning to work, may be affecting your mental health.
If dealing with a New Year is a hard time for you, it’s important to remember that you are not alone, and there are things you can try that might help. Evidence suggests there are 5 steps you can take to improve your mental health and wellbeing. Trying these things could help you feel more positive and able to get the most out of life. Here’s some tips to help you improve your mental health in 2023 using the 5 Ways to Wellbeing:
Connect – Why not try the following: talk to someone instead of sending an email, speak to someone new, ask how someone’s weekend was and really listen when they tell you, put five minutes aside to find out how someone really is.
Be active – Maybe try: taking the stairs not the lift, going for a walk at lunchtime, walking into work, getting off the bus one stop earlier than usual and walk the final part of your journey to work, organising a work sporting activity, have a kick-about in a local park. You could also set yourself a fitness challenge. Read more about our challenge events here. We have charity places available!
Take notice – Try some of the following: get a plant for your home, have a ‘clear the clutter’ day, take notice of how your friends are feeling or acting, take a different route on your journey to or from work, visit a new place for lunch.
Keep Learning – Why not learn something new in 2023? Here are a few ideas: find out something about your friends, sign up for a class, read the news or a book, do a crossword or Sudoku, learn a new word or language.
Give – Why not volunteer at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, or another local charity close to your heart? We have lots of opportunities available – check them out here.
We hope you find these tips useful.
Best wishes
