Mental Health Support Team

My Mental Health Support Team (My MHST)

Mental Health Support Teams provide support to young people, school staff, parents and carers.

They offer support to those who may be experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, such as anxiety or low mood. We offer support on a one-to-one basis, in groups and we deliver workshops within schools and colleges.

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) can:

  • Talk to you about what you are finding difficult
  • Work with you to improve your mental health and wellbeing
  • Put you or your parent / carer in touch with other professionals who can support you

You can self-refer by speaking to your teacher or your Designated Mental Health Lead, who will be able to submit a Request for Support to the Mental Health Support Team. Support could be in relation to relationship difficulties, bullying, confidence and self esteem, anxiety, self harm or anything that affects your day to day life.

If you have been referred to us, we will contact you to discuss the difficulties you are experiencing and look at what you would like to change.

For Parents and Carers

We understand that it can be a worrying time if your child needs to access emotional wellbeing support. You might be left with lots of questions or feeling unsure of how therapy works. The therapist will be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you have.

Therapy is a confidential space; this is important to allow your child to express themselves fully in a safe environment. We would like to reassure you that if we become concerned about your child’s safety that we will make you aware, supporting you to manage situations in the home.

At times the therapist might invite you into the session to discuss a variety of aspects. This will be carried out in agreement with your child and therapist.

For Children and Young People

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind have a dedicated Mental Health Support Team (MHST) who provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This is accessible to young people aged 16-19 years who attend a variety of educational settings in Hull, including some apprenticeship providers.

In addition to offering CBT on a one-to-one basis they can also arrange group work, deliver workshops and be on hand at events within your educational setting. They can also offer guidance in relation to accessing other forms of support.

Speak with your tutor, safeguarding team or pastoral support to see if your setting has access to this support.
