Children’s Mental Health Week will take place from 5 – 11 February 2024. The week is run by children’s mental health charity Place2Be and was launched to equip, empower and give a voice to children across the UK. This year’s theme is ‘My Voice Matters’.
Here are some tips (for young people) to help if you are feeling overwhelmed.
Talk to someone you trust: Tell a friend, family member, or teacher how you’re feeling. It can make you feel better to share your feelings with someone you trust.
Practice mindfulness: Try taking deep breaths, doing simple exercises, or meditating. These can help you calm down and feel less stressed.
Make a routine: Try to go to bed and eat meals at the same time every day. Having a routine can make you feel more organized and happy.
Stay active: Move around! Go for a walk, play sports, or dance around your room. It can help you feel more energetic and less worried.
Be creative: Draw, write, or make something with your hands. Being creative can help you express yourself and feel better.
Use screens wisely: Try not to spend too much time on phones or computers. It’s good to take breaks and do other things.
Set small goals: Break big tasks into smaller ones. When you finish something, celebrate! It can make you feel proud and happy.
Take care of yourself: Do things that make you feel good, like reading, taking baths, or playing outside.
Hang out with friends: Spend time with people who make you feel happy. It can help you feel better when you’re sad.
Ask for help: If you’re still feeling down, talk to a counsellor, teacher, or another adult you trust. They can help you feel better.
