Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, we come together to shed light on an issue that affects individuals and families worldwide: suicide.
Every 90 minutes, someone in the UK takes their own life. But there is hope. Suicides are preventable, and by changing how we talk about mental health and suicidal thoughts, we can help save lives.
This year’s theme encourages us to transform the way we view and discuss suicide. Too often, fear and stigma keep these conversations in the dark. But by being open and supportive, we can break down these barriers, offering hope and help to those in need.
Here’s how you can make a difference today:
- Check in on loved ones: A simple conversation could make a world of difference.
- Ask directly: If you’re concerned, don’t hesitate to ask, “Are you thinking about suicide?”
- Listen with empathy: Sometimes, knowing someone cares can be lifesaving.
- Encourage professional support: Let them know that help is available.
We also invite you to share our campaign assets on your social media and within your communities.
Support is available:
If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t hesitate to call the Mental Health Support Line on 0800 138 0990 – available 24/7.
