Hull and East Yorkshire Mind is proud to support Stem4’s Youth Mental Health Day 2024 on 19th September, shining a spotlight on the theme #ControlYourScroll. As the digital landscape continues to evolve at an astonishing pace, today’s young people are navigating an online world vastly different from what existed just 10 years ago.
Youth Mental Health Day 2024 aims to spark conversations around the balance between the benefits of online engagement and the risks that come with it. We’re proud to help empower young people across Hull and East Yorkshire to #ControlYourScroll, making the digital world a more positive space for everyone.
Here are some easy-to-follow tips to help you #ControlYourScroll and manage your online experience:
Control the Content:
- Use filters to block content that makes you feel bad. You have the power to create a feed that works for you.
- If something makes you uncomfortable or scared, report it and block the account. It’s your space—keep it safe!
- Not everything online is true. Before believing or sharing something, double-check the facts to avoid falling for fake news.
Control Your Connections:
- Only connect with people who make you feel good. If someone makes you feel bad or stresses you out, it’s okay to unfollow or block them.
- Check your privacy settings so only people you trust can see your posts or contact you. It’s important to protect your personal info.
- You don’t have to accept every friend request or follow back everyone. Choose who’s in your circle.
Control Your Time:
- Set a timer for how long you want to be online, so you don’t spend hours scrolling without realizing it.
- Step away from your screen and do something else you enjoy—like reading, hanging out with friends, or being outside. It’s good for your mind.
- Ask yourself if what you’re doing online is making you happy. If not, switch to something that does!
Control Your Follow:
- Fill your feed with accounts that make you feel happy, motivated, or teach you something new.
- If an account makes you feel stressed or insecure, don’t hesitate to unfollow. You don’t need that energy in your life.
- Follow different types of accounts to keep your feed interesting and balanced.
